Crafting the Future from the Past

Greetings, I’m Russell Dove, a cyberpunk artist with a foundation in science and web development, holding degrees in chemistry and computer science. Over the years, I’ve designed and programmed websites while cultivating a passion for high-tech aesthetics. My artistic journey started with sketches, evolved through acrylic paintings, and transitioned into the digital realm. However, my true calling emerged when I began creating art from real-world objects.

The Art of DOVEMATRIX: Exploring Cybernetic Frontiers

DOVEMATRIX celebrates the cyberpunk aesthetic through tangible, old-school assemblages. I repurpose found, purchased, and discarded items with a technological flair, carefully selecting materials that embody futuristic designs and cybernetic elements. From TV frames to circuit boards, I transform discarded electronics into intricate artworks that merge analog and digital worlds. This iteration of my work remains true to traditional methods, though I’m open to incorporating AI, 3D printing, and laser cutting in the future.

At the heart of my creations are themes that resonate with the cyberpunk ethos: cybernetic organisms, cyberspace decks, futuristic circuitry, and holographic technologies. My work ranges from USB-powered LED lamps — crafted from futuristic game controllers and light-emitting diodes — to wall-mounted art housed in flat-screen television frames. These light sculptures not only illuminate but also provoke thought, embodying the fusion of technology and art.

DOVEMATRIX stands for Design-Oriented Visual Experiments in Mechanocybernetic Artwork, Technology, and Related Interactive eXhibits. Many of my pieces are named with acronyms that encapsulate their essence, adding an additional layer of intrigue and meaning.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand my work into new areas, including a design book that will showcase cyberpunk tool sets and visual display interfaces. I’m also working on customizing high-tech weapons with a distinctly futuristic aesthetic and exploring the creation of cybernetic organisms using diverse materials.
